ABOUT
We are unique in that Matt, Bruce, Neil and Joe are all originally from different corners of the North of England. The result is a distinctive northern blend of inspired lyrics, shining melodies and well-crafted rhythms.
Through a shared appreciation of skiving uni lectures and fine drinking establishments (the landlady of our local introduced Matt, Bruce, Joe and Neil), We have begun their mission of jagged pop melodies and lyrics that skiffle along like 4 northern Mike Skinners bashing each Arctic Monkey over the head with a guitar, and are now set to release our first single. "People are more intelligent now. They need to relate to something ", says more social pop commentator than frontman Matt. " I got into hip-hop when playing basketball at school but realized it had nothing to do with my life. I came from a small Yorkshire town not LA."
One listen to Too Much Time and danceable Fickle's well-crafted punky rhythms and observational lyrics about small-town living, and you feel some kind of irrefutable familiarity. Something to "get you going and make you sweat, something much closer to home." The things I sing about are what's happened to us and a lot of other people," says Matt . "Life is the best outlet you can have; everything you love, all your frustrations, then tell people about it. Stuff that pisses me off will probably piss most other people of too."
It's true, there's no point being clever or art-rock about it. In fact when most other bands have been learning an uber-cool art of style over substance, the most artistic we could get is when after a gig in York one smashed gig-goer asked us to spray him gold. "We did and when the gold dried we wrote Jakpot on his chest in silver. It was proper spray-paint too, the stuff that doesn't wash off. We felt a bit guilty... he's probably still gold now. It'd probably make a good song.
But wherever the subject matter comes from, in a year playing sardine-packed, stage-invading gigs from birthday parties to supporting Pete Doherty, and with early airplay from Radio 1's Zane Lowe, We are about to do something special. In fact, if we haven't given up our wagering ways, we'd probably bet on it.
